scan the cube when changing direction

The scan device could record every moment of stuff as long as they are in the scanning area. And I want to see the combination of stuff’s different directions when they are changing the direction. The process of that can be considered as many directions in a very short time. So the image of the scanning is the connection of changing the direction. I kept the cube on the top of the scan stick and changing the direction of that before I got this. I don’t know exactly if this has a connection with my project, I just wanted to have a try.

Context map

I chose a sculpture as my object that is located in the Soho Square. My project aims to create a multiple perspective landscape that is made up by different directions of perspective. I got this idea from the Cubism.

In cubist artworks, objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create the shallow ambiguous space, one of cubism's distinct characteristics.

I took photos for that sculpture from different directions because I want to use this sculpture as my stuff to detach seeing from different direction. It's a metaphor of stuff in the real world. After that I resembled these photos that took from different directions together. And it got a kind of new construction in one direction.

This is something I did by now. Next step, I am planning to use some materials to detach the perspective and having some experiments to create stuff to see the perspective space.

A view from the football receiver

This is a test about the view of the football receiver. I passed the ball to the other person who was taking this photo. With a camera on head, he just wanted to change the position to get the ball. And these are some photos from that camera during the process of trying to get the ball. From my point of view, the trace of the ball was almost like a couple of parabolas. And from his position, the image was interesting, with a complex trace.

The traces of the ball are much like some parabolas because generally we take the ground as the frame of reference when watching a football game. If I change the frame of reference with the pupil, we could not consider this as a parabola any more due to the pupil’s different directions every second. Especially the players on the ground, they need to revise the positions in order to get the ball and in that process, they gaze the ball. For their pupil, the trace of the ball will not be considered as a normal trace and depend on the trace of the players. This trace is a result of two movements’ combination.

If I keep the frame of reference as a move object then I can get the different landscapes that depend on different frame of references. For example, I can show a football game in a different way by choosing the different players as frame of reference. Besides that, this role of observe can be used to other landscape that can be transformed to a new form. This is something I could figure out by now.
